about
Gülbin works as a ceramic artist and archaeologist where her handicraft is interlaced through the ceramic techniques and the perspectives of craftsmanship. She finished ceramic handicraft technical program at Formakademin 2006 and took here master degree in archaeology in University of Gothenburg in 2014. She works first of all with different building techniques, experimenting with glazes and makes fusions between archaeological items and her own expression.
The background to the spontaneous, colorful and explosive glaze comes from the graffiti culture and the "spitting" action. The action is a great anchor in the expression that today has become synonymous with the artist. "Spitting" can be likened to someone who's spitting, gobing, a clear marking and as a boundary setting. It´s like a form of ownership marking for the artist. What drives her through the work process is issues and problemising of subjects as cultural heritage, identity, diversity and migrations.
In autumn 2016 she founded "studio gülbin" in her workshop in Majorna where creativity and projects takes place and evolve with the motto "slowceramics" where manufacturing has to take time and material take place.
